Confucius taught his son: As a human being, we should know and experience three of many tenets in life: shame, humility, and danger.
My personal philosophy of starting a business is based on these three tenets.
Shame: We need to do the business based on morality, so there is peace in our minds.
Humilty: Never forget where one's happiness comes from. We should give back and contribute when we are successful.
Danger: Life is a cycle of birth, age, illness, death and bitterness, and therefore to start an enterprise is to do a virtuous matter.
One day in 1971, I left home in a hurry, but returned very soon because of an abdominal pain. I borrowed three keys from my wife to open the front door. However, because of the poor quality of lock, I could not unlock the door even though I tried for several minutes. All I could do was embarrassingly ask my neighbor, Mrs. Hsu, for help. When I was in Mrs. Hsu’s house, suddenly, an idea came to mind. “Why don’t we just make one master key for people to use?” As I was in the bathroom of Mrs. Hsu’s house I decided to start a business. From this day, I have since devoted myself to solving security problems and enhancing convenience in the use of locks.
It was by no means easy for me to be an entrepreneur for I was originally a farmer. To build a successful enterprise, I strongly believe in the following principles:
1) Excellent techniques and technologies deserve and require constant investment.
2) Our society deserves products with good quality.
3) Importance of constant research and innovation.
Lock: As the name, a lock should be solid, secure, user-friendly and of good quality. Overall goal of our company: to make a lock that can be easily used by elder and young people, and to make a key that can unlock all locks.
Enterprise philosophy: Adding value to locks through innovation and high quality.
Enterprise spirit: Focus on R&D; as well as innovation and technique.
Enterprise goal: Based out of Taiwan, offer products worldwide. Promote Taiwan culture and develop long term future for company.
Brand - “REAL Lock” has appeared at the world famous Cape of Good Hope Lighthouse in South Africa since 1982. REAL was founded in 1972, and we have promoted our branded products to the world for more than 30 years. When I personally saw our REAL stainless steel padlock on the door of the lighthouse, I was so flushed that I could hardly breathe….a Taiwanese brand product in the farthest south corner of the world. My eyes couldn’t but tear, and I fully appreciated the value and future of the REAL brand.
REAL represents the total of human art. It is the taste of industry culture, royal service, commitment of responsibility, and strong desire to be the representative of this industry and an extension of Taiwan’s strength.
